This is the second in a series of articles about advice for moving an estate.
The first article offered advice on finding the correct company to move or freight your items after the death of a loved one. The purpose of this article is to let you know how to prepare for the movers in a way that can save you both money and time.
Before the movers arrive, determine which items will be delivered or shipped to which family members.
We advise using colored dots or labels to indicate which items will go to each location. If your relatives are in the city, then they can place the labels on the items themselves. If more than one person would like a certain object, the decision as to who will receive the item can be made well ahead of time. The movers do not want to get involved in this decision process.
If the relatives are out of town, either take pictures of the items, or prepare an inventory list to send to these individuals. Once everyone has decided on where the items should be sent, you can once again place the stickers on the chosen items.
The mover will need a list of the items for each location, along with the value associated with each item. Please have the shipping addresses ready for the movers.
If the use of colored dots does not appeal to you, you can always move the items into separate rooms and them movers can pick up and segregate each room . The dot concept will save on your time and you will not need to move heavy items.
