International Shipping to Bahamas is not as complicated as one may fear it would be. Some other areas of the world have many more restrictions and much trickier regulations. However, there are still several important rules and restrictions when shipping to this area of the world.
Before looking at the list below, here are a few definitions which may help make understanding the rules a bit easier.
• Perishable -An item that is susceptible to rotting, decaying, or ruined. This usually refers to types of food.
• Nonperishable - An item that is not able to be broken down or rot. Non-food items for example.
• Infectious - Something that can cause or spread an infection.
• Non-Infectious - Something that can't cause or spread an infection.
Knowing these terms will make the following list of prohibited items more easily understood.
These items are prohibited from being shipped to the Bahamas:
1. Obscene or indecent materials including photos, books, articles, or other printed material.
2. Perishable infectious biological substances.
3. Perishable non-infectious biological substances. (This would include different types of perishable foods).
4. Radioactive materials.
5. Skimmed milk in tins.
Many of these rules are fairly explanatory. In some cases they are not so different from restricted items in other countries as well. For example, consider rule number 4. Radioactive materials can be very dangerous for anyone who unknowingly comes in contact with the items. People can get very sick and in some cases die from exposure.
There are some other Limits that need to be taken into consideration when mailing packages to the Bahamas:
Maximum Size Limits:
Although the minimum size limit is simply to ensure the item is large enough to clearly display the address you are mailing the item to and clearly display the return address (your address) there are some maximum limit sizes.
• Max length = 46 inches
• Max width = 35 inches
• Max height = 46 inches
• Max length and girth combined = 108 inches
The maximum value of items being sent to the Bahamas cannot be larger than $2,499.
About the Bahamas:
On a side note, did you know that the Bahamas is an island country made up of more than 700 different islands? They are located to the south east of the state of Florida and are south of the Florida Keys. This is a prime vacation destination.
Despite having so many islands, the population of the Bahamas remains relatively small in comparison to other countries. According to the 2009 census the largest city in all of the Bahamas is called Nassau. The population for Nassau which is on the island of New Providence has 238,132. The tenth largest city (Clarence Town, Long Island) has only 1,709 people on it. That's quite a range and these are only some of the largest cities. Can you imagine the smallest?
